Business Angels Europe (BAE) is the European Confederation of Angel Investing. We connect and strengthen the angel investing community in Europe.

European Programme Manager:
Gender & Diversity

BACKGROUND

Business Angel Europe (BAE) is the federation of National agencies and networks across Europe whose mission is to build and grow a thriving Angel Community across the whole of Europe. Key actions include: building greater awareness of the importance of angel investment for the growth of entrepreneurship in the European economy, the importance of building syndicates and angel groups and creating  relevant national ecosystems, also addressing key market failures and gaps at both policy and operational level.  This includes working closely with the European Commission and relevant institutions

As part of its activities, BAE delivers relevant European Funded programmes that support its mission objectives. These programmes always run within larger consortia of partners with whom we cooperate and coordinate actions.

Currently BAE is delivering several programmes that are focused on one of its core mission objectives : increasing the  capacity of  Business Angel network and groups to be more diverse in terms of  both increasing the number women investors and those for more diverse communities and  increasing the number and level of investment in women founders and founders from more diverse teams.  A further notable feature of these programmes is building the capacity  of angel investment in European countries with less developed angel markets or where access to angel investment remains challenging

These programmes include currently:

 

  • EMPOWomen - The 2-year project  is focused on  accelerating the growth of women leading deep tech businesses across a range of sectors and less developed markets . BAE is delivery a 2x 3 month Investment readiness programme and enabling them to increase their access to investment. Programme delivery period: November 2023-October 2025 (www.empowomen.eu)

 

  • ESIL 2 Empowering the Next Generation of Angels – This 2-year programme is aimed at building the capacity of Angel investment  in 6 target countries in Central and Eastern Europe, drawing on the experience of Angel investors from more developed Angel communities who will carry out a programme of activity working on the ground with key local players and supporting transnational connections and cross border investing.  A key aspect of the work will be empowering more women Angel investors in the target countries and supporting the development of a more diverse investment base and increasing the potential for a gender focused investing. .   • WomenInvestEU : This new project is designed to establish and grow a gender focused investor network across Europe, working with the whole supply chain including angels, venture capital, banks, private equity and other wider ecosystem players. The programme will carry out a wide range of activity to build connectivity between women in investment, supporting women investor leadership and supporting the further development of a gender-focused approach. Actions include both events to support networking and sharing of experience, further training for women investors and wider promotion and awareness of gender focused investment including a new code of conduct. Programme delivery period: September 2024- August 2026. (website t.b.a.)

MAIN RESPONSABILITIES

  • Co-ordinating the actions related to the delivery of BAE’s European Funded Programmes focused on gender and wider diversity in angel and early stage investment

  • Working with BAE’s responsible Board member(s) and other teammembers to achieve the core objectives, agreed actions , deliverables and targets for the successful delivery of BAE diversity related programmes, with specific  reference to the EMPO Women; ESIL Next Generation of Angels and Women InvestEU projects.

  • Supporting the direct delivery of key tasks and actions related to the agreed Work programmes of the Gender and diversity focused projects, in such areas as  training, webinars,  workshops, events, networking, communication, including mobilising and supporting the activities of relevant investors, mentors, speakers and experts.

  • Connecting with relevant players ( a.o. subcontractors) who are part of the Consortia of organisations working in partnership with BAE for the programme delivery

  • Organising relevant meetings and communications, both online and face to face, creating notes of discussions and key actions agreed

  • Supporting wider dissemination and  communication  actions related to the awareness raising, promotion and marketing of key activities related to the projects and to specific gender and diversity actions

  • Record keeping and work organisation including using relevant digital tools and platforms

  • Tracking progress and monitoring of relevant  timeframes, deliverables  and outputs.  Including the organisation and financial follow up of the projects costs and incomes, reporting from the subcontractors and engaged partners.

  • Supporting BAE’s Women Angels Leaders taskforce and their participation in key activities related EU funded programmes

  • Developing and maintaining a wider cohort of women investors and leaders including VC, Banks, PE and wider ecosystem players 

  • Supporting the work of the BAE VP Diversity and Board in developing BAE’s leadership role  in Gender focused investing supporting relevant activities and events organised by BAE and its members, including the identification of further projects and related initiatives across Europe.

  • Supporting relevant research and development of reports, also workshops and webinars on the topic of  gender focused investment in relation to European women investment and women entrepreneurship  and wider ecosystem aspects. 

  • Identifying new policy and programmes relevant to the diversity objectives of BAE, including new funding opportunities and supporting the  development of relevant bids led by BAE or other consortium partners 

SUPERVISION

The Programme Manager Gender and Diversity will be employed by BAE, and for the above mentioned programmes operating under the leadership and supervision of Jenny Tooth OBE, Vice President for Diversity for BAE. However new projects might be realised under supervision of other appointed BAE Board members.. The VP Diversity is leading BAE’s work on developing gender and wider diversity in angel investing across Europe and a leading player in the delivery of the EU funded programmes detailed above.

WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

  • This is a full-time position. The role can be delivered from any location, working remotely using digital collaboration tools, with regular online meetings with the VP Diversity, BAE President and BAE team and also with the project consortia and relevant delivery partners.

  • Regular Face to face meetings will be organised, generally either in Brussels or London, but travel will also be required to meetings with project partners or project events held as part of the  delivery tasks and objectives – with relevant costs covered.

GROSS SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT DETAILS

Salary 50-60k euros dependent on experience, together with related employment benefits .

WHO WE NEED

We are looking for an individual with the right knowledge and experience and who is passionate and committed to making a difference in the topic of diversity and notably gender focused challenges and opportunities in relation to access to finance, and growth of Entrepreneurship across Europe. SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Education to at least degree level in a related or relevant subject

  • Fluency in English at both written and spoken level (C1)

  • Other relevant European languages also useful

  • At least three years’ current or recent experience in project management or project coordination of substantial size projects programmes, ideally funded at European level or national level

  • Preferably relevant and current experience in working on the subject of diversity, female investment or female entrepreneurship at either policy, research or operational level 

  • Able to demonstrate understanding of the topic of Access to finance, including the role of Business angel investment and Venture capital

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal, both offline and online

  • Familiar with relevant digital packages and communication systems, including Microsoft office and Teams, Google Docs,  Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, Airtable, etc

  • Capacity to draft documents, meeting notes and reports

  • Experience or understanding of desk research into relevant diversity and gender focused policy and initiatives and other related topics

  • Capacity to work independently , plan work and take initiative and leadership in relation to project requirements and  Project progress and  monitor outcomes and results 

  • Flexible and adaptable approach, including working both face-to-face and virtually

  • Available to travel to meetings and events in other European countries including Brussels and wider European destinations
